Things We Love: September

With September drawing to a close, and autumn in our presence, there is nothing better than a great t-shirt. Simple, easy to throw a cardigan or a sweatshirt over, always looks good, is comfortable, great with jeans, and comes in just about any color. (Oh, and they’re great for any body type, by the way, as long as you buy the correct size!)

Last month I told you I was obsessed with appliqué t-shirts, and so now I’m going to share some of my favorites. Still the classic t-shirt design, with a new, modern twist to update to your wardrobe, the appliqué tee, has become the new “staple” for many of the biggest mass retailers in the fashion industry. Oh, and since I can’t really limit myself to t-shirts, I’ve got anything I like with an appliqué…which includes but is not limited to, t-shirts, tank tops, and cardigans…and possibly more!

Silk posy tee $49.50 at J.Crew (shown in Moroccan Spice)

J.Crew’s “fall” themed rosette appliqué silk posy tee is made of raw-edged silk chiffon, giving a classic cotton henley a new feminine finish. Three-quarter sleeves give it a fall feel, making it perfect for a chilly afternoon. Available in 4 colors, White Ash, Moroccan Spice, Dark Charcoal and Radiant Orchid. The Verdict: Wear it everywhere. (Just wash it every now and then, because by the way, even though it’s silk, it is washable!) Looks great under a blazer for work or a night out, looks great under a cardigan for daytime.

Tissue cascading twists tee (shown in Neon Peach) at J.Crew select colors on sale for $14.99

A loose fitting v-neck tee with a mix of twisted cotton strips cascading along the front. The strips are attached to the tee—and each other—with exposed thread, lending a modern, deconstructed vibe. The tee is made of “tissue cotton” a lightweight, bias-cut fabric with a very soft wash. Available in three colors (and many sizes are still available) Heather Cloud, Ivory, and Neon Peach.

The Verdict: It’s slouchy, it’s soft, it’s lightweight. It’s $14.99. Why are you even reading this? Go buy all three colors you goofball!

Tissue three roses tank select colors & sizes $12.99 at J.Crew

Tissue Three Roses Tank, (dark pewter shown) select colors and sizes $12.99 at J.Crew

Occasionally I wonder if J.Crew is joking with their sale prices. $12.99 is such an insane deal for such a cute tank! This loose-fitting tank features a bouquet of knit flowers at the neckline and clusters of beads and knit strips at the hem. Select sizes available in 3 colors, Dark Pewter, Pale Buff and White.

The Verdict: Another no brainer.

A few more J.Crew options (all from their sale rack, btw!)

Women's Embellished Tanks (shown in Cockteal Hour) $16.50 at Old Navy

It doesn’t get much better than this. All the style for a fraction of the price…and Old Navy’s products have become much higher quality and better fitting than in the past.

This tank features pretty ribbon or fabric flowers trim the top left of this tank. The Verdict: This tank is available in NINE adorably-named colors with FOUR different choices of appliqués.  Oh, and it’s available in tall and plus sizes. I’m not sure I can find anything wrong with it. Nope. Nadathing.

Women's Flower-Trimmed Racerback Tanks (shown in Surfing) $6.99-12.99 at Old Navy

This sporty tank is softened with the addition of fabric flowers and a softly twisted neckline. Available in 6 colors, sizes vary by color (clearance item).

The Verdict: I’ll agree with Old Navy’s words, “This pretty tank is definitely date-worthy!” I’d wear it out. Hint: Try scouring the clearance racks at your local Old Navy store before buying it online, I was able to score this exact tank and color for $2.99 at Old Navy on Broadway in Soho a few weeks back!

Women's Petal-Trim Perfect Tanks (shown in Volcanic Ash) $11.99-12.99 at Old Navy

An update on a classic ribbed tank…and a good one at that! Lustrous chiffon petals along the scoop neckline make this rib-knit tank one basic style that’s also beautiful. Available in 5 colors, sizes vary based upon color.

The Verdict: Another tank to scour your local store for. I scored this tank (in Volcanic Ash) in Old Navy in Enfield, CT when I was at home with my parents for $4.99!!

Appliqué V-neck T (shown in Flint Grey) $12.99-19.99 at Gap

I love this adorable, heathered tee with just the right amount of embellishment, making in the perfect tee for morning, noon and night! Available in two colors, sizes vary by color–Flint Gray is also available in tall and petite sizes!

The Verdict: This tee has a 4/5 star rating on and highlights include that it narrows shoulders, fits true to size, and doubles as a great going out tee, as well as a casual tee. It is however, sort of see-through, since it’s heathered, and you should expect to wear a tank underneath.

This great tee by Caslon® features scattered beads and meshy bow appliqués around the neckline.

BCBGMAXAZRIA Strapless Appliqué Dress $398.00 at Nordstrom

Don’t say I didn’t warn you. There was no chance of me limiting this post only to appliqué t-shirts. Nope. Noooooo way José. So anyways, how great is this appliquéd BCBG dress? I am totally lusting after it, even though I need it for…um…well, nothing. Raw-edged fabric and tulle flowers embellish this dress, which is boned for a shapely fit. Netting gives the skirt volume. Available in off-white, sizes 0-12.

I’d like to see your applique shirt collection! Have you made any of your own? A lot of these shirts are easy to replicate.

I have sooooooo many! I’ve never made my own. Unfortunately, I don’t have much time since I’m always busy, so shopping is easier.
